Cherish the Years with a Child Growth Chart

Written By Angelique Velasco

Growing up, there were five kids in my home. All of us were close in age, just ten years between the oldest and youngest. One of the activities that could gather us all together was when we measured our heights. It was a chaotic but worthwhile tradition, even if the accuracy of our markings was debatable. Many of us tried to stand on tiptoes, all wanting to be the tallest in the group. We were kids who were excited to grow up fast even if our parents may have wanted for us to remain youthful and innocent.

My parents weren't privy to our charting adventures. At the time, we worried that my parents would ground us for writing on the walls. Back in the sixties and seventies, growth charts were not available, at least not where I grew up. I remember how those writings would catch my eye from afar, and for a second, I'd examine the scribbles closely and be amazed at our fast growth. It was a time capsule of some kind.

Now, a child growth chart is a must-have item for parents. Kids grow a little taller every day and in a flash, they're all grown up. Cameras and home videos can only capture so much. A growth chart monitors progress as well as unforgettable memories. It's a distinct reminder of when your little girl or boy was as tall as your knees, and parents can mark the passing years, able to see which ones had a growth spurt and the memories that come with it.

Instead of locating makeshift charts beside a door, show them off as part of your baby nursery decor. A wide selection of professional designs are available for prominent display as parents can select from a variety of patterns that complement any setting. Colors and themes can match the attractive pastels of your baby's nursery. There are animals for zoo-themed baby bedding, or a more earthy garden design. The growth charts also have sex specific appeal. For small girls growing taller, a flower pattern is perfect. For little boys who are always on the go, a race car growth chart matches their active style. Although the charts are usually made of paper, you can also find them available as wall stickers which can be readily applied and peeled away. There's no need to fret about restoring these charts when the walls are redone. Just take the chart down and place it back up when the room is completed.

A child growth chart helps parents reminisce about their children's childhood. It also makes for a fun activity that motivates children when they see how much they've grown. As children dream of new heights, parents can mark the moment. When the kids are grown and leave the house, these charts can be stored away and, over time, become treasured keepsakes for parents, or lovely childhood souvenirs for their children.
