Things to Consider Before Buying Wedding RingsWritten By Ronny SecherThere are so many things to consider when purchasing wedding bands that it can seem awfully overwhelming. Should you buy matching sets, what kinds of metals to choose from, diamond size and quality, and a myriad of other things. That doesn't even include pushy sales people that you just want to smack and yell at them to back off from you for a minute.
You and your partner should take the time to do some research before ever entering a jewelry store. The more familiar you are with wedding sets, the less likely you will be convinced to purchase something you will regret later on. Sales people are very good at their jobs and you must prepare yourself for this. One of the biggest and possibly hardest decisions you have to make is the type of metal your rings will be made of. You can choose either white or yellow gold, silver, or platinum. These metals are all commonly used for wedding rings. Silver will usually cost the least and is often frowned on by future spouses. Yellow gold is often softer than white gold and has to be combined with another metal to make it hard. The higher quality the gold, the softer it is going to be. White gold has been treated to make it that white brilliant finish, and will be more expensive, due to the additional material. Platinum, a highly regarded metal used in wedding rings, is very hard to come by and is of the highest cost. The next thing to consider is the diamond. There are many cuts to choose from and will likely be the next big decision you have to make. A diamond that has many facets has many intricate cuts, making it more expensive. The more cuts there are, the higher the price tag will be. You can find several websites online that provide detailed descriptions of the various styles and cuts you can select. Looking over these guides will help you out in your decisions tremendously. Now the next thing to consider is whether or not you choose a matching set, or something separately that will fit well together. It is up to the individual couple to decide this, since some matching sets can be more costly than finding them separately. When my wife and I were looking to purchase our rings, she found a really nice white gold mixed set for her, with the engagement ring and band combining to make a nice intricate flower. There was no matching mans ring for it, but across the room we discovered my band that was not only the same material, but the leaf carvings were almost identical to hers, it made a perfect set, and they both were under $500 total. If you want to avoid problems, try really hard to avoid knock offs, like clarity enhanced diamonds. If they were enhanced, they weren't that good in the first place. It's kind of like buying a car that has been wrecked but painted to look better. While it may look really nice, it's still a piece of junk. Regardless of what the two of you decide on, make sure you don't rush into anything. This is why you want to learn all you can about wedding sets. You will have a really good idea of what you're looking for and you won't be convinced to buy something you don't want by sales people that aren't thinking of your best interests.
